The Zonal Institute of Education and Training (ZIET) at Gwalior is a subsidiary of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), New Delhi (Estd.1965)- an autonomous organization under the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Over more than the 40 years of its existence, KVS has grown into a vibrant organization catering to the educational needs of more than 9,00,000 students studying in more than 950 Kendriya Vidyalaya (K.Vs) situated in various parts of the country and abroad in Moscow(Russia), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Tehran(Iran). With a total staff strength of nearly 40,000 the KVS as an organization is committed to act as a pace setter in school education.

Keeping in view the training needs of its staff, KVS established ZIET Gwalior in the year 1995. Recently two more ZIETs have been established at Mumbai and Mysore.

The ZIET, Gwalior is actively functioning from November 2002 in its present campus and has organized number of training courses for KVS and KVs staff. The ZIET, Gwalior organizes training essentially for staff of seven KVS regions viz. Bhopal, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, Jabalpur, Jammu, Lucknow. These KVS regions look after the KVs situated in the States of Jammu & Kashmir, HimachalPradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, MadhyaPradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarancahal, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Maharashtra. The staff of other eleven KVS regions viz. Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Silchar, Bhuvaneshear, Patna, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad are also deputed for some specific trainings at this Institute.

Gwalior is one of the important historical cities of Madhya Pradesh. The city of Gwalior has produced legends like Sangeet Samrat Tansen. Besides its historical sites of repute,Gwalior has got educational institutes like LNIPE-Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Jiwaji University, Maharani Laxmibai College, other Professional colleges for Engineering, Medecine, Ayurveda etc. and thus has attained the status of an educational center.
